Trevor Whitelaw OAM

Congratulations are extended to our long term President R. Trevor Whitelaw on his being awarded an OAM in the Australia Day Honours list.

Besides his long and distinguished career with the Brighton Sub- branch, Trevor has also been a mainstay of the South Australian RSL Lawn Bowls Association for many years. And believe it or not he has had a career way from us! His work with Santos and various Government bodies for more than 30 years had much influence with the extremely sensitive issues of the environment and traditional land owners in the outback. Trevor led many of these bodies as Chairman, and otherwise as a member of committees concerning the arid lands and water catchment in SA, NT, NSW and Queensland. In addition he was a member and Chairman of the Australian Maritime Oil Spillage Commission for many years.

For the Sub-branch Trevor was the major input, along with Jim Nicholson, of the amalgamation of the Sub-branch with the Brighton Bowling Club. His leadership in the many and complex meetings between the two Clubs and the City of Holdfast Bay has seen the Sub-branch move from a grey and dismal future at Brighton Road to a modern community based Club with bright prospects in the years ahead.

Well done Trevor
